Happy Humans Mindfulness Interview with Erin McGrath O’Connor

– By Bryant Jones

1. What’s your business called & how did you name it?

My business is called Happy Humans Mindfulness. I am a former kindergarten and first-grade teacher. After twenty-one years in the classroom, I decided I didn’t want to teach reading, writing, and math anymore. I wanted to teach kids how to be happy humans. In March 2020, Happy Humans Mindfulness came to be.

2. What does your business do?

I’m on a mission to empower both moms and schools in nurturing resilient, strong, and joy-filled children. With a touch of playfulness and a solid foundation in scientific research, I teach mindfulness techniques that work wonders.

3. How many years have you been in business?

Three years

4. Why did you choose your location?

I am a resident of Ashland.

5. What motivates you?

I hold a deep and unwavering passion for sharing the beauty of mindfulness with young people, a passion born from my own journey through the shadows of life’s most challenging moments. Within the gentle embrace of mindfulness, I found solace during a time of turmoil and trauma, and that experience has lit a fire within me to illuminate this path for others.

6. Are you in the Ashland Business Association (ABA), Metrowest Chamber or member of a different Chamber?

No.

7. Which Chamber/Association has been the most helpful to you & how?

I’m not familiar with either chamber/association.

8. What’s an interesting fact about your business most people don’t know?

I chose to include the Lotus flower in my logo because it symbolizes profound transformation, emerging from the muddy depths to bloom in pristine beauty. It signifies resilience, reminding us that even in the murkiest circumstances, we can rise above and thrive.

9. Do you have any advice for new business owners?

The most valuable guidance I can provide new business owners is to embrace self-compassion as they embark on this journey. It’s completely acceptable not to have all the answers from the outset. Never hesitate to seek assistance from those who might possess the knowledge you seek.

10. What could your town do better to support local businesses?

It would be great if Ashland would invest in digital platforms and social media promotion that could amplify our businesses’ online presence, helping us connect with a broader audience.

Thank you sincerely Erin McGrath O’Connor! 🙏
